대한민국 서울을 기반으로 2005년 설립된 사무소는 동시대 예술 전문 기관으로 혁신적이고 개방적인 자세로 전시문화의 새로운 양상에 이바지하고 다양한 문화 생산의 거점으로서 역할을 수행하고 있다. 사무소는 국내외 작가들과 함께 하는 국제적인 수준의 전시를 기획할 뿐 아니라 그들을 위한 책을 출판하고, 역동적으로 변화하는 동시대 미술이 관객들에게 보다 가깝게 다가갈 수 있도록 강연, 심포지엄, 그리고 특화된 교육 프로그램을 제공하고 있다. 이외에도 국내 작가들을 위한 아카이브를 만들고 있으며 레지스터의 역할을 하여 한국과 해외 미술기관의 교류를 돕기 위해 노력하고 있다.

사무소는 특히 프로젝트를 기반으로 하는 특정주제에 의한 전시를 구성하는 데 주력하고 있는데 매년 열리는 동시대 예술 축제인 “플랫폼 서울”은 사무소의 중요한 프로젝트 중의 하나로, 동시대 예술을 이끌고 있는 국내외 작가들의 새로운 작업들을 위주로 전시가 구성되며, 전시장을 나서는 관객들이 대화하고 소통할 수 있도록 독특하고 다양한 방식의 프로그램이 시도되고 있다.

사무소는 전시관을 중심으로 꾸려지는 기존의 미술기관과는 달리 장소가 갖는 제약에서 넘어서서 새로운 방식의 전시형태를 구성하고 실험적이고 관객 참여적인 프로그램 생산에 주력하고 있다.

 

Samuso(Space for Contemporary Art) is an initiative curatorial office founded in 2005 based in Seoul, Korea, and is to realize a new form of an art institution without an exhibition space. Based on its new ideas, Samuso presents the most relevant and innovative exhibitions, educational programs, public lectures, symposiums and publications in contemporary art.

The annual contemporary art festival Platform Seoul is one of the most important curated projects by Samuso which features diverse productions with international artists and makes the contemporary arts available to wide and various audiences by providing specialized exhibition and education programs.

With its extensive programs, Samuso functions as a platform for contemporary Korean artists to expand into the international art field and outreach initiatives and for Korean audience to approach to a new wave of contemporary art by developing successful partnership with international art institutions and museums.
